Our Vision

Bock Consulting was founded with a vision of helping to bridge the business and cultural gap and significantly expand trade and investment between the United States and Francophone sub-Saharan Africa. We do this by providing management and legal consulting services to public and private stakeholders, and by generally acting as matchmakers and transaction brokers.

Many words have been spilled on the enormous economic development and commercial potential in Africa. Unfortunately, for many different structural reasons, such potential remains largely untapped, and particularly from a U.S. perspective. When American companies do engage with the African continent, it has historically been with a limited industry focus, e.g., extractive industries, energy, infrastructure, agriculture; and a limited country focus: U.S. companies simply tend to feel more comfortable operating in Anglophone countries, e.g., Ethiopia, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana; or in countries that, at least from a sub-Saharan African perspective, seem disconnected from the core continental economy, e.g., South Africa or Morocco.

Similarly, most of the U.S.-led professional services and consulting firms that have positioned themselves as facilitators of transatlantic trade and investment have also tended to open offices in Anglophone capitols and hire primarily Anglophone service providers. When such organizations have cast their gaze upon Francophone sub-Saharan Africa it has usually been via Paris-based offices and French professionals (or France-trained professionals). This may be a model that facilitates France, or EU, engagement in Africa, but it is an ineffective tool for sparking and fostering U.S. engagement.

Unique Approach

Bock Consulting aims to take an entirely different approach: we are U.S.-trained legal and consulting professionals with deep, personal experience in Francophone sub-Saharan Africa, and a unique ability to bring together a wide spectrum of U.S. companies and stakeholders, across an unlimited breadth of industries, with a very specific group of countries: French-speaking sub-Sahara. Specifically: Guinea, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Togo, Mali, Cameroun, Benin, Gabon, Niger, Djibouti, Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic, and Chad.
