Meet The Team
Our two founders have legal degrees from the United States, the UK, and France, experience at an Am Law 25 law firm and a Big 4 Accounting Firm, have each, individually, founded successful boutique law firms, and have lived and worked in the United States, France, and sub-Saharan Africa. These experiences make Bock Trade Law uniquely positioned as natively fluent in English and French, entirely tricultural, and deeply knowledgeable across multiple jurisdictions and legal systems (common and civil).
Matthew spent nearly his entire childhood (over 16 years) in sub-Saharan Africa, including over 10 years in Francophone West Africa (Guinea and Togo). He has forged a deep and lasting connection with the region, and maintains cherished personal and professional relationships on the continent and throughout the diaspora.
After moving to the United States, Matthew obtained a bachelor’s degree in Multinational Business Operations from Florida State University, a Juris Doctorate degree from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, and a LLM in International Economic Law from the University of London – School Of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).
Matthew has spent his entire legal career focused on Import, Export Controls, and Sanctions law and regulatory compliance, both as a consultant at Ernst & Young, and in private legal practice, including at the helm of his own firm, Bock Trade Law, since 2016.
Matthew is also a licensed customs broker and is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts, New York, and the U.S. Court of International Trade, and is natively fluent in English and French.
Jennifer spent nearly her entire childhood in France, and also completed her undergraduate legal degree (License) and a Master’s legal degree (Master 1) in France. Jennifer also obtained a LLM from King’s College London before moving to the United States and completing a Juris Doctorate degree from Southern Methodist University.
Prior to launching her own firm, JAB Law, in 2022, Jennifer was a Partner in the Corporate Group at McDermott Will & Emery, one of the world’s largest and most successful law firms.
Jennifer has spent her entire legal career focused on Corporate Law. In addition to regularly acting as primary outside general counsel to clients, Jen also advises companies on strategic business transactions such as the US expansion of non-US companies, and alliances such as licensing, supplier relations, distributorships, and collaborations across a broad span of industries.
Jennifer is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts, Texas, and Florida, and is natively fluent in English and French.
Versatility
While our individual specialties are Corporate Law and International Trade Law (Customs, Export Controls, and Economic Sanctions), our day-to-day roles consist, at a high-level, of providing legal, operational, and strategic advice to company leaders, and interceding with government agencies on behalf of such companies.
